The University of South Wales (USW) Schools and Colleges Liaison Team is delighted to sponsor the Secondary Teacher of the Year award.

The United Steelworkers School and College Liaison team works with teachers and counselors to deliver a comprehensive program of outreach activities for high school students that includes:

  • Higher education workshops on all aspects of the university application process, student life, student budgeting and finances, course selection and university.
  • Inspirational masterclasses and essay sessions on specific topics, providing students with insight into studying a topic at degree level.
  • One-on-one information, counseling and orientation sessions, including mock interviews and application surgeries.
  • Resilience and well-being workshops.

The team organizes presentations and workshops for parents and guardians and supports schools and colleges with continuing professional development sessions for teachers and counselors on a multitude of topics.

These are complemented by our annual Teacher and Counselor Conference and our Teacher and Counselor Awards.

The team also works with under-represented groups, including students with disabilities, service children, BAME students, young caregivers, and care leavers, and offers a tailor-made outreach program to engage learners of these. groups, with the aim of encouraging and supporting progression to HE.

We are proud to be the Steelworkers Union’s first point of contact for teachers and counselors.

In 2019, the team won the Association of Higher Education Liaison Officers Award for Best Practices in Student Recruitment and Outreach.

CINTEC ™ International Ltd is the sponsor of the “New Teacher of the Year” category at the South Wales Argus Schools & Education Awards.

Cintec â„¢ International Ltd has been a leader in innovative thinking in engineering research and development since 1984.

The company, based at Gold Tops in Newport, specializes in structural reinforcement systems and masonry anchors for the preservation of historic restorations and other masonry structures.

In addition, she invented unique products such as Waterwall, which provides rapid explosion protection against improvised explosive devices, including the effects of dirty bombs.

The fire and rescue services also benefited from his expertise.

Cintec is currently working in partnership with Cardiff University and University College of London on a project that will lead to future work in Cairo and across the Middle East.
