How did you start?

Lutz says she has always enjoyed creating community spaces where people can learn and grow together. After struggling with loneliness in high school, she developed her leadership skills and sense of belonging by competing on a cross-country team. This transformation helped Lutz realize that dedicating yourself to something while being surrounded by positive people can foster sustainable growth and development. This principle is the catalyst that brought her to Learnit, an organization committed to helping individuals learn and develop skills for the hybrid workplace, and helping organizations foster a culture of lifelong learning. life on a large scale.

What does the term “community” mean to you?

The word “community” can mean many things, notes Lutz, but she draws personal inspiration from FeverBee founder Richard Millington, who defines community as any group of people who interact around a common interest or goal. share.

Lutz emphasizes the importance of community learning. “When I started at Learnit and listened to our students, I realized there was a growing need for social, community-based learning that was more interactive and personal than social media, and people wanted continue to connect after an event or one of our instructor-led live workshops. I realized that we had a huge opportunity to provide a safe space for our students to continue learning with us and to build that space community for them,” says Lutz. Transferring the contagious energy and excitement of live in-person events to an online format has brought its own set of challenges, but ultimately virtual environments also have their own strengths. .

Can you explain “values-based community” and “values-based learning”? What is the link between the sense of belonging and learning?

Even before the COVID pandemic hit, Lutz says, there were still instances when people felt disconnected from their jobs and colleagues. Monotonous daily routines – inside and outside the office – sap energy and make people feel disconnected from learning something new and growing. “Instructor-led live engagements – in the form of a workshop, event, boot camp or retreat – have always been an opportunity for organizations to generate a sense of shared enthusiasm and energy and to help people open up to learning something new, reconnect or rekindle them with a sense of curiosity. We had to find ways to continue to nurture that enthusiasm. post engagement live, online.

In addition to facilitating instructor-led training and workshops on a variety of topics, Learnit’s primary goal, she explains, is to foster learning, spur innovation, and create spaces where people can share what they have learned in trainings or workshops across the community. “The community helps us hold each other accountable to stick to the goals we set for ourselves. This process creates a strong sense of culture and belonging that lasts long after the learning moment,” emphasizes Lutz.
