St. Mary’s University Invests in Online Learning and Provides Training for Faculty to Specialize in Online Education

“It really opened up the possibility for us to do things differently,” said Andrea Carroll-Glover, vice president of strategy and online programs.

The college has started offering courses to develop skills and certify professors in online teaching expertise, and so far around 110 faculty members have completed all three courses.

“Even in the most basic classes, every time I logged in I learned something new and different,” said Amy Jauman, program director at the School of Business and Technology.

University officials say flexibility is everything, and they hear it from graduate and undergraduate students.

“Once they were exposed to this online experience, they recognized that this type of learning opportunity can give them the flexibility they need as an undergraduate student,” Carroll said. Glover.

Jordan Modjeski will be senior this year at the Winona undergraduate campus.

“I didn’t realize how much I would love to work online,” she said.

Modjeski took a few online courses before COVID and is grateful that more are offered now.

“A lot of people like to meet online. There is a certain element now that I have more time, I don’t need to go somewhere, I don’t need to plan something,” he said. she declared. “Mostly [for] students who live off campus, things like that make it a bit easier to connect people, and that’s something I think is done very well. “

It is a transition brought about by an unprecedented pandemic.

“We teach such a diverse group of students in all of our programs and I think our excellence in this particular area will only increase that opportunity,” Jauman said.

The university is considering offering this program to educators in Kindergarten to Grade 12, as many school districts are also looking to open long-term online programs due to COVID-19.

Avon School Board Approves COVID-19 Protocols for 2021-2022 – Hendricks County ICON – Web Edition

By Peg McRoy Glover

The Avon School Board approved a set of COVID-19 protocols at its July 12 meeting for the upcoming 2021-22 school year. Although these protocols have been approved, it seems that they remain fluid.

“We met with our local health department to review state and CDC guidelines,” Superintendent Scott Wyndham said. “Advice will continue to be shared (from the local health department) and these protocols may change over the next two weeks as we head back to school.”

Wyndham said based on their current situation, the protocols are recommendations rather than requirements. The only exception is the wearing of a compulsory mask on school buses. A federal mandate requires the wearing of a mask on all public transport.

Currently, the school system recommends that unvaccinated people of all grade levels or visitors wear a mask, but it is not mandatory.

Kindergarten to Grade 6 classes will look a lot like they were last year with kids split up to respect the 6-foot radius for social distancing. Seating in cafeterias will also maximize the distance between students who will be in the pods for contract research.

Due to the vaccinations, the secondary classes will resume a more normal functioning. Students who have been vaccinated and provide proof of vaccination will be exempt from distance guidelines.

E-learning is evolving, forcing families to engage in e-learning year round and is only available to families who participated in e-learning last year. So far, 37 students, spanning all grade levels, will enroll in this option.

Extracurricular activities will only be offered to students attending school in person.

After much public comment, the school board adopted the proposed protocols with a 4-1 vote. Gregory Dana disagreed. He believes elementary school students should be required to do so until a vaccine is available for this age group and all visitors should be required to wear masks.

“As with every decision throughout the pandemic, the COVID-19 protocols proposed by the CCAA administration for the 2021-22 school year were the culmination of many dialogues and contributions,” said Kim Woodward , Chairman of the Board of Directors. “In fact, despite the pressure to produce our protocols earlier, we intentionally waited until current and relevant data became available. We believe these
the protocols provide a basis for starting school, and our administrative teams will be able to focus on teaching and learning while being able to make changes if necessary.

An FAQ link on the district website is provided to cover all protocols.
