MILPITAS, California and INDIANAPOLIS, July 11, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The SEMI Foundationthe not-for-profit arm of SEMIand the Advice for adult and experiential learning (CAEL), a non-profit organization working to improve career education pathways for adult learners, today announced the launch of the career exploration platform SEMI, designed to strengthen underrepresented workers’ access to education and employment opportunities in the U.S. semiconductor industry and to develop its talent pool. The SEMI Career Exploration Interactive Platform connects workers’ knowledge and skills with career and educational pathways ranging from internships, apprenticeships, and certificate and graduate degree programs.
“With the growing demand for semiconductors, the continued shortage of chips, and the industry’s corresponding push to increase production, the lack of talent will remain a headwind to microelectronics growth and innovation unless more people are attracted to careers in the industry,” said Shari Lis, Executive Director of the SEMI Foundation, the not-for-profit arm of SEMI, the global industry association representing the electronics manufacturing and design supply chain. “The SEMI Career Exploration Platform will help expand and diversify the industry’s talent pool by making it easier for people to chart a rewarding career path.”
“Recent global supply chain disruptions have underscored how vital the semiconductor space is to our nation’s economy,” said Earl Buford, President of CAEL. “As the industry seeks to increase its capacity in the United States, we must ensure that our industry, workforce development and education sectors are aligned to realize these opportunities and ensure that they extend to all communities.”
The SEMI Career Exploration Platform matches users’ skills and interests with the occupations most likely to lead to professional success and personal fulfillment. The platform’s matching feature, aimed at veterans, matches their service experience and training with career opportunities in the semiconductor industry. Users can explore a job site, training programs and organizational profiles of companies and training providers nationwide. They can also seek careers in semiconductors in fields such as engineering, manufacturing and production, installation and maintenance, information technology, marketing and business support.
The SEMI Career Exploration Platform is funded by Strada Educational Network, a CAEL employee, and the SEMI Foundation. The partnership supports SEMI’s work to strengthen the microelectronics industry’s talent pool through diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives that create career paths for traditionally underrepresented populations in the industry. industry.
Roadtrip Nation, an educational production company, will create videos in collaboration with the SEMI Foundation and SEMI member companies that will feature success stories of microelectronics professionals to help raise awareness of career opportunities. Featuring traditionally underrepresented workers, including women, people of color and veterans, the videos will be available on Roadtrip Nation’s website and featured in a PBS documentary airing next year.
