Techspectations Educate 2021 | Growing need for accreditation and quality assessment, says Pearson’s Siddharth Banerjee
The fourth edition of ‘Techspectations’, Kerala’s first digital summit hosted by Manoramaonline, kicked off on Saturday morning. Tech experts, influencers in the tech field, heads of major brands and start-ups are among the speakers of the virtual meeting. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan gave the opening speech on the theme of National Education Policy (NEP): approach, opportunities and challenges. Karnataka Minister of Higher Education Dr CN Ashwath Narayan spoke about the National Education Policy and its wider impacts on the education ecosystem.

The discussions and sessions of “Techspectations Educate 2021” have been formulated with the aim of providing a holistic view of the challenges and opportunities facing the education sector.
In his opening speech, Union Education, Skills Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said the benefits of digital education could only be fully utilized when every student of the country would have gained access to digital devices.
During the keynote presentation, Karnataka Minister Dr CN Ashwath Narayan explained how Covid-19 has disrupted the education ecosystem while accelerating the use of technology and online education. “It should coexist with offline education. So blended learning is the way to go,” he added.
Addressing the assembly, eminent educator Dr Chenraj Roychand, Chancellor, Jain (reputable university) said online learning is not just a transient phase triggered by the Covid pandemic, but the path to to follow.
Kiruba Shankar, CEO, Business Blogging Pvt Ltd; and Mariam M Mathew, CEO of Manoramaonline, also addressed the attendees at the opening ceremony.
At the first summit roundtable on “Kerala EdTech Startup Ecosystem” John M Thomas, CEO, Infopark Kerala; Shery S Kurian, CEO, Tutorcomp; Muhammed Rashid, Founder and CEO, Codesap Technologies LLP; Saiju Aravind, Founder and CEO, EduBrisk; and Joyal Joseph Joy, Founder of Teacherind, shared their views on the huge opportunities in Edtech.
The panel also exuded confidence that the ecosystem of Edtech startups in Kerala is poised to experience massive growth in the years to come.
In the second panel on “The challenges of improving online skills and the vision beyond 2021”, the participants – Arjun Mohan, CEO – India, upGrad; Dr Raj Singh, Vice Chancellor, Jain (reputable university); Sasank Potturu, CEO, Will Lead; Dr Rajeev Ramachandran, business manager – Horizon, Manorama; and Tom Joseph, Director – New Initiatives, Jain (reputed to be a university) – felt that relevant and sustainable skills upgrading is the way forward.
